Forum
The IoT International Forum aims at creating a platform for global debate on IoT, and bringing together technology and service providers, academics, end-users and actors from multiple application domains, and policy makers.
The fundamental belief of the Forum is that a common Internet of Things has the potential to bring large scale societal benefits, and ease the long term technological burden, beyond the gains of diverse intranets of things.
Aims
- The Forum aims to identify and help breakdown barriers to a common Internet of Things, for the potential benefit of the whole IoT domain
- The Forum shall inform the wider world as to the potential benefits of the Internet of Things
- The Forum aims to bring the IoT community together, and provide a place for it to meet and collaborate in a pre-competitive manner
- The Forum shall to bring the IoT community together with other communities which have an important role to play in the enabling, deployment, and use of the IoT
Focus
- The Forum focuses on approaches applicable across domains, and with a common technology basis. This does not mean there can only be one technology or one standard for the IoT, but commonalities and bridges between different technologies should be exploited
- The Forum focuses on pre-competitive collaboration. It is not an industry association promoting the solution and business position of one particular group of companies, nor does it develop its own detailed technical standards - although it may be expected to consider how different technologies and standards can meet the visions and goals of the IoT as seen by the Forum. The Forum aims to maximise the size and benefit of the overall IoT domain and market - individual organisations should compete for their position within the domain inside other bodies, and in the marketplace
- The Forum will look outward, and interact externally to the IoT domain with end users, society, investors, legislators, etc.
